WHAT IS AN STRATEGY TO DEVELOP ENGLISH SKILLS?

Teaching strategies, also known as instructional strategies, are methods that teachers use to deliver course material in ways that keep students engaged and practicing different skill sets. An instructor may select different teaching strategies according to unit topic, grade level, class size, and classroom resources. There are four Principles of Instruction focused in the four skills: Increase comprehension: Make meaning clear through visuals, demonstrations, and other means. Increase student-to-student interaction: Engage students using English to accomplish academic tasks. Increase higher order thinking and the use of learning strategies: Explicitly teach thinking skills and learning strategies to develop English learners as effective, independent learners. Make connections to students' background knowledge: Explicitly plan and incorporate ways to engage students in thinking about and drawing for their life experiences and prior knowledge.
